This camera is a Detective. The only evidence I have regarding
its origin is the label fixed on it front by the initial vendor : "Comptoir
Photographique du Pont de Fer - 14, Boulevard Poissonnière - PARIS".
The body (height: 19cm, width:
11cm - depth:
23cm) is in wood covered with ochre leather.
It has two viewfinders allowing horizontal and vertical framing.
On the front, below
the shutter,
there are three identical buttons : |
|
|
On the right is
a knob for cocking the shutter,
|
|
In
the middle is the focussing knob
(graduated form 3 to 30 meters), |
|
The
last knob on the left, is used to select one of the two apertures.
|
|
|
There are two
shutter releases
on the right of the camera :
The
one above maintains open the shutter as long as it is depressed. The
other one below is
the regular shutter release but its speed is unknown.
The shutter is of the guillotine
type.
This camera can hold 12 plates
of the format 9 x 12 cm (each plate is fixed on a metal sheet labelled
from 1 to 12). After each shoot, it was possible to reload a new plate
without opening the camera. Using the lever on the upper right of the
camera moved the shooted plate in the bottom of the black chamber. |
On the back of the camera, there
is a small counter which was used to count the remaining plates. |
